My Red Balloon

My Red Balloon

A Poem by Emily DeAngelo

Bounding through the field
Grass underneath
Held in my hand
A single red gift

It floats and flies
Through the gentle wind
My hair whipping behind
Like the ribbon of my treasure

Barely breathing
Barely thinking
Just running
With dearest abandon

The sun warms my skin
Blood rushing to my fingertips
The sky graces the world
With its everblue presence

I close my eyes
And soak it in
I'm finally living
And feeling for the first time

Freedom has been reached
It's being held in my grasp
Begging to reach the stars
I'll hold it forever

I love it!! Wonderful feeling of freedom that starts with such simple images and reaches the heights.
