Think

Think

A Story by Maraina Cross

Shunned, looked at with pity or disgust. This is how most people look at others that are different; freaks and outcast. People don’t take the time of day to see what are in these people that are a little too different than them. They see them sitting, alone, but don’t care. They will call them names behind their back; stupid, ugly, cripple. What they don’t know is that the people they ignore and pick on do understand what’s going on. They go home and cry. They think their worthless and wondering; what did I do to deserve this. After all that, most just can’t take it and end it. By ending their lives, only then do the people that were so bad to them or did nothing to stop it see them. They think of their families, how they are suffering because of them. Others that go through this day in and out put on a fake smile and act like everything is ok, even if they feel like their being torn from the inside out. They want to prove they are not worthless, ugly, or stupid. You ask why I know this. It’s because I have gone, and still do, though most of these things every day. Because I can’t walk, breath, or move on my own; people treat and look at me different, calling me cognitively disabled or tube girl. Just because others and I go on with our lives differently doesn’t give you the right to judge. Next time you see or do something to someone that is different, think how you are affecting them.
