"Murder or Suicide?"

"Murder or Suicide?"

A Poem by Lovesleftovers

“Murder or Suicide?”

You may be surprised to know

that when you sleep

I press my head to your chest

To be assured you have a heart

How can you say you love me,

but hurt me to my core?

True, your blows are invisible

My spirit is what’s black and blue

I blame myself

I consented to this crime called murder

And I’ve given you permission

To prolong my death

The time has come

To save myself

And walk away

From my own suicide

Nice, If my interpretation is correct, I can see how an unhealthy relationship can be a form of suicide. never thought of it like that, but reflecting on my own life, it brings back a lot of ghosts for me. I remember mental abuse and it's not fun. A bruised spirit is a good symbol of that. And consenting to that continuation of harm, is where we kill ouselves. Well done. Cheers,
and thanks for the review.

I like the way you describe so succinctly this death of the inner spirit. The end of the poem has a hopeful tone in the realization that a decision has to be made to preserve that spirit.
