The Stars Still Shine

The Stars Still Shine

A Poem by Lovesleftovers

“The Stars Still Shine”

I have wished to know why the stars shine

while we live in darkness and despair

and the world is so cold and cruel.

Even as our sons and daughters die on foreign soil,

the stars still shine.

Though our children go to bed hungry,

as our women are beaten and raped

and people die of devastating disease,

the stars still shine.

While people judge us for the color of our skin

and hate us for who we love,

marry or worship,

the stars still shine

so bright with light and love.

So that above it all,

If I lift my lowered head

long enough

I’ll see that

the stars still shine for us all.

Beautiful, deep and simple juxtapose one another in a battle of lullabies and connotations of darkness, though we can despair within the turmoil of our downfall and the earth upon which we create a stain, if we stop screaming for a while we can find that we aren't alone, that which fills us with insignificance can be more reliable and shoulder sights of pain.

Very existential. The stars take on a deeper meaning.

And beneath (or above) it all there is love, has always been my belief. I like that you have attached that to something as constant as the stars. A wonderful and well written thought to start my day.

"If I lift my lowered head/ long enough/ I'll see that/ the stars still shine for us all."- very beautiful and it is true: we have to "lift our head" and never be afraid of taking the steps to see the stars we want so see shining bright!
Congratulations! It is well deserved!

Beautifully written poem. Thank goodness something is constant in this
very inconstant world....the stars....and may they shine brightly down
on us forever and give us hope.

"If I lift my lowered head
long enough
I'll see that
the stars still shine for us all".

Thank you for submitting this lovely poem to my contest.
