Don't Tell Me To Be Happy...

Don't Tell Me To Be Happy...

A Poem by Lovesleftovers

How ignorant and heartless

to tell someone to cheer up

Because they’re depressed

Depression is a disease

Would you tell someone with cancer

to just stop complaining

and get better?

No one talks about it

It’s still taboo

(unless you’re famous)

So it’s easier to pretend

you’re tired

When you stay in bed for days

If you can imagine being trapped

in the deepest, darkest hole

Your fingers bloody and raw

from scratching your way up

The constant whispering

in your ears

Telling you how worthless

and hollow your life is

No one loves you

You love no one

You don’t want to end it

But it’s the only way to

make the pain stop

Please don’t tell me to be happy

Tell me it’ll be alright
