Cross My Heart

Cross My Heart

A Poem by Sasha Evans

You are a childhood memory of
Honeysuckle and oranges that I
Had long since forgotten until
I saw your reflection in my mind.

A warm nostalgia swirls through
Me and I take your hand willingly
Wanting nothing more than to go
Back to when we had been one.

I cry on your shoulder and you
Listen to me with comforting ear
As you always had and never
Hesitate to tell me I’m wrong.

You wipe my tears away by
Kissing each drop one by one
Tickling me into a smile that
Can only be so true for you.

I bury my face between your
Strong shoulder blades as
You cradle my legs and carry
Me through the blossom field.

I hold you close, clinging to
Your shirt in desperation and
Wonder why it was that you
Couldn’t have been real for me.

I'm not a professional reviewer by any means, but I have to say that I like this poem very much. I can relate to the visuals and feel the emotion as I read it. Though for being a man, I was able to reverse the viewpoint and wish for a woman to share your vivid imagery. And yes, I had a childhood memory as well, and I'm being sincere...cross my heart.
Very good job!
