Darkness, Short LivedA Poem by Ashley CampbellSo I'm pretty sure I borderline hate this peom.Moonlight fell as death devoured the light. Such purity and innocence corrupted. Defiled. With a hunger of the starved, And the eagerness of the hunt. With the fierceness of a predator, Death savored every fleeting moment of life. Darkness. Betrayed by the world, Light surrendered. Succumbed to the night. And the beings below, They felt humbled. That light would take a bow, But a never ending darkness provoked fear Unrest. With a liar’s tongue Death cooed reassurance, Til demons escaped the earth. Light threatened not their passage, A limitless playground they viewed. Beings hid Like rodents from a cat, They feared the reign of death. Its demons. So unkind. For light they prayed, An ending to this dream. Blood humid air, A constant stench of flesh. In every corner scavenged demons, Out of harvest were the bodies. Light smiled, Such fools they were. © 2011 Ashley Campbell |
