Link sighed heavily and ran his fingers through his thick blond hair in an act of frustration, where was he? He hadn’t seen his only son in a few hours and was really beginning to worry. “Link…where could he have gone? I know he didn’t run away….he had no reason to…so…” The man stood and wrapped his arms around his wife,” I don’t know..” He whispered softly into her ear as he closed his eyes,” I honestly don’t know.” Link held her for only a moment before he released her and went to a nearby window to look out at the kingdom of Hyrule. He and Zelda, the heiress to the Hylian throne, ruled over this beautiful paradise with a firm but gentle rule. They had been married for about 16 years…the age of their son. The kingdom was hidden and war was something that was always taken lightly…only a bad dream to most people, but now…now it was no game or horrid nightmare that could just be woken up from…this time… there was no escaping a war Link knew they would end up fighting.
There had been a guard standing near the window and watched his king’s face,” What are you going to do, sir?” He asked. It was as if he hadn’t even heard the question for a while, as if the king’s mind was on delay. “I’m going to go find him.” He simply answered, not removing his gaze from the window. “Do you even know where to look?” Link shook his head solemnly.” No….I have no idea…but I do know that something isn’t right…he knows he isn’t suppose to be out alone during this fight….and he knows that his mother gets worried about him.” From behind the armor the guard nodded to his king, though he knew he mainly talking to himself than answering the question. Zelda had long since left the room, so Link now had the room to think out loud. A sudden feeling passed over him, and he knew then, he knew that something was wrong somewhere with his son. Before the guards or anyone else could get in another word the young hero fled from the room as quick has his long limber legs would carry him and out of the castle.
Zelda hadn’t been in the throne room, so she hadn’t seen Link throw open the large doors of the castle and leaving them swinging open as he continued to run. “Open the gate!” He called as he neared the main entrance into the Hyrule Castle grounds, the guard looked puzzled but did as he was told. “Sir! Where are going!” He called as Link passed him, still at a dead beat run, but his king didn’t answer…he didn’t have to.
Out into the Market Place, through all the staring people, and out onto the bridge which lead into the Market Place. Link stopped for a moment, his hands on his knees, he looked up toward the sun. “Sir?” The stationed guard asked. The young king’s breath came too heavily for him to speak at the moment, so he only looked over a the man. “Remember….this isn’t like the things you sometimes have to deal with….whoever is behind this attack isn’t afraid of you. I hope that you don’t find this offensive…but if you really think that Little Link is missing…if you really think he was kidnapped…then you know he isn’t afraid to fight you.” The thought had never occupied to him until now. If this person had the nerve to take his son…would a fight with him really be so terrifying?
Link rose up from his position and glanced at the sun again. “I know this…and I don’t care if he fears me or not…I’m not worried about that….my son is missing…and if he has been kidnapped then I will do everything I can to bring him home where he belongs.” Determination was strong in his voice, and the guard laughed, he was still the same Link he had known 16 years ago running into battle…his sword drawn ..his eyes and voice of nothing but determination …no matter if he thought he would win or loose the battle. “This is my son….and I would gladly throw away my life it meant saving his…” With this being said he took his first step out into Hyrule Field ….the place that always promised an adventure.
