What Do I Know About LoveA Poem by Bell SpaldingHonestly, I feel like sometimes I write more in the style of a toddler attempting to verbalize their thoughts.
What do I,
A 14 year old, old soul and young idiot, both self-acclaimed, Know about love? Correct me if I'm wrong, but Love's a selfless thing, It's finding someone who you appreciate and understand, It's wanting someone to be happy and wanting to bring them happiness, It's compromises, It's acknowledging flaws and not romanticizing them, It's working through difficulty because you couldn't bear to lose someone, It's recognizing that life does not stop solely to let you love, But that life in all of its bullshit is always better with them at your side. It's not empty, pretty words, perfectly scripted, It's not something you are born understanding perfectly well, It's not thinly disguised lust, It's not something that happens easily or in an instant It's not about "someone loves me", But being loved, and more importantly, loving someone as much as you can without losing yourself. These are the things I know, And yet I'm still scared sometimes that my certainty is foolish.
