Infinite Summer Sky

Infinite Summer Sky

A Poem by Bell Spalding
"

Or, the alternative title, "Ode To Nature That I Somehow Included My Boyfriend In"

"
The hidden path to the left in the woods I used to roam
Is overgrown
Where the memories of young love's awkward thrill
Remain as words still lingering in the air

But there's a place straight ahead
Over a hill with nothing else surrounding it
And it's nothing but gravel and trees bathed in a golden evening haze
And sky, even more so then down the old path

An unexpected discovery
That demands a silence, almost reverent,
And an upward gaze at the slow fading of blue that is becoming indigo
Punctuated only by the distant moon

Even overwhelmed by silence and beauty,
I cannot help but think of the path just a few steps back
And the person that was once there beside me

Without a thought, I whisper his name,
Content with the sound it spins on the breeze,
Like a brief melody
Of recollections, promises,
And perhaps new memories, if circumstance allows
Underneath this inexpressibly infinite summer sky.
