strange yellowwood

strange yellowwood

A Poem by MI-KOL HIGHLY
"

Referral to the poem (Strange Fruit by Abel Meeropol) : 1937. (Protest against American Racism). This is a modern day poem protesting against corruption, xenophobia, murder, rape, black supremacy...

"

strange yellowwood

strange fruits hanging from the yellowwood tree

rotten from the roots to the last leaf

with rivers flowing to it from wherever rivers flow from

i

from the masters of connive and corrupt

feeding on the impoverished man’s tab

making themselves the ‘more equal’ in the barn

waging war to be suffered by the poor

ii

to the sudden pungent smell of necklaced bodies

[white man's blood on white man's hands]

iii

immoral men with scarred faces and hearts of stone

who kill those who try to survive from their hard work

iv

and devour the most divine fruits

leaving trash for the stupid boys to marry

so they can perish from the poison from their teeth

...

here is a tree for the vultures to be ensconced in

v

for black supremacy and xenophobia to reign

for the thieves to feed upon and flourish

“here is a strange and bitter crop.”
