Body of Darkness

Body of Darkness

A Story by Annie

I gazed down staring at the mysterious, yet engaging body of darkness that keeps flowing with an unsuspected rage and wrath. Its course I am not sure of, but it has a plan of where it must hastily flow, from the unrevealed place it had come. I believe its bewilderment indulges mystery, so intriguing.

I don’t have long to spend out here before I must leave to go back to the world I came from, a world more hostile. But I believe this mystery, the not knowing, is what makes it so memorable. I have always loved it out here, away from the pressures of life.

I cast my final glimpse down from the bow of the ship ‘Corte Blanche’ as we hasten away from this seducing vortex, leaving the never-ending ocean, this body of darkness behind. I hesitantly head back to the place I came from.

This is very well written! For some reason, however, I read it as poetry rather than prose as you intended, but I respect your choice to qualify this as a story rather than a poem (on another note, I've read poetry that is in this exact, prose format). My favorite part was, "But I believe this mystery, the not knowing, is what makes it so memorable." I think we all can relate to that statement and that in itself drove the story home for me.
