She was a mystery.

Julian saw that immediately, in the way her body crouched limply on the white mattress, in the way a line of blood trickled from her neck, in the way her hair blended into her skin. She was a mystery that lured in any soul, his included.

The paramedics that crowded by her side searched for the cause of death. They ran their hands all over her body, lightly tracing each protruding bone and hunting for cuts of flesh. It was obvious; the arrow had killed her. But how did the arrow get there?

The walk toward her felt endless. An anticipated, panic-ridden journey that stretched on with each stride of his legs. His surroundings blurred out, his vision fixated solely on her flaccid body, and the sound of sirens and worried chatter grew distant. Finally he reached her, and Julian recognized that face instantly.

He'd seen her before. In cafe's, on the sidewalks, lurking in tunnels. God, she was the girl! The blonde beauty that had appeared before him so many times. That was her, f*****g hell that was her. Julian had always wondered why he had seen her all around London. She was everywhere, keeping

quietly to herself.

He wanted to speak to her, every time. There was one in particular, during an assault at an underground nightclub, that Julian had seen her leaning against the wall, watching intently. It was intense; the look in her eyes as she watched the victim being carried from the ground and onto a stretcher. It looked as though she was completely unsurprised, like she knew it was going to happen. Like she already knew beforehand that the girl in the club would get hurt.

But it also looked like she was sympathizing. As if she was helpless to stop the assault, helpless to aid the girl even though she desperately wanted to. Her eyes were layered, with foreshadowing knowledge, desperate sympathy, and ultimately, twiddling hope that the girl would heal.

Julian felt the energy radiating from her under the dark, energy that yelled: I will heal her. There was an ominous aspect to her appearance, but when really taking the time to look, Julian understood that her soul was gentle and pure. And sad.

More than anything he wanted to march up to her, maybe so he could hear her voice. He planned on using her as a suspect, she would fit the criteria. He was curious, and he was drawn. So, Julian alerted the other policemen that he would begin the standard questioning of witnesses. They nodded approvingly.

He started off with her.

Julian was walking toward her, but he was still far away. Step by step she was getting closer, but the room was getting darker. She gave him one powerful, unyielding look, and right before his eyes, she walked away.

They were graceful movements. The collision of her black boots and the floor made no sound, and her pacing was slow. But before he knew it she was gone. Hidden behind the corners of the London streets and under the shadows of the night.

He couldn't reach her. He couldn't find her.

Where did she go?

The light's dimmed until the brick wall she stood against a few minutes prior was the only illuminated part of the room. He paused in place, feeling suddenly heated and clammy under his uniform. Confusion and regret overpowered him.

She was a mystery.

Here she was, unable to escape his presence once and for all. Julian started to panic, he didn't want her to be dead. He didn't want anyone to be dead.

This was the difficult part of his job, having to deal with tragedies. And her, her death was most certainly a tragedy.

Julian swallowed down the panic, staring straight at her closed eyelids with a blank expression. What could he do? Could he heal her? Who was she? She couldn't die…He needed to know who she was!

"Julian, have you seen this girl before?" whispered Elliot, his friend and fellow cop. He made sure nobody could hear.

He couldn't answer. All he could focus on was the beauty that still crept in each part of her body. Her slim fingers, her pouty lips, her thin and sloped nose. Even the flushed paleness of her skin. She was still beautiful.

"Officer Korera!" snapped Elliot, getting frustrated under pressure.

"What?" Julian asked, dazed.

"Have you seen her before?"

"Um," he cleared his throat. Dizziness began to fog his brain. "Yes. I have."

Julian wasn't looking at him, but he could tell Elliot was surprised. "Do you, do you know her?"

"No."

Julian reached out, letting his hand linger above her arm. He wanted to touch her, to see if she was alive, to feel the stranger he's been wondering about. However, he couldn't get himself to do it. She looked so fragile, and vulnerable, like one touch would completely shatter her bones. He didn't want to disturb her, even though under default…she wouldn't be disturbed.

Not if she was dead.

He slowly moved his hand in the air to the pair of wings attached to her back. Were those real? They certainly looked so. As white as an angel and from what he could guess, as soft as silk. With feathers piling upon each other, Julian touched it lightly, hoping to get a reaction from her.

Nothing. But the feeling of her wings underneath his fingertips were electrifying. He continued to stroke it, unable to snap out of the allurement.

She was a mystery.

He bent down closer to her face, closer, closer, closer. Her eyes still sealed, her body still frozen until he was merely inches away. "Is she alive?" asked Julian.

"From what we see," Elliot said, "No. She's gone."

Julian stared at her curiously. He examined the carefully sculpted arrow dug deep into her neck. Her body was completely still, she wasn't breathing, but it was like…it was like she was still there. Like she wasn't fully gone yet.

"However, it's such an odd case. The girl, she has an arrow in her neck, but her organs still seem vital. Look here, her skin, it's pale but it's still warm. Blood is obviously still pulsing through her veins. And here, the wound in her neck, it's not completely cut open, and the part where the arrow hit- look, look closely-" beckoned Elliot, bringing Julian's head further down with him, "There's a part of it that's stitched somehow. The blood is just a stain on her skin, but the cut is hardly even there."

It was true. The only blemish on her perfect body was the arrow in her neck. It appeared as though the point of the arrow was dug into her skin, but everywhere around it was spotless. As if a transparent hole drilled through her neck to allow the arrow entrance, but it was just a hole. No cut, no tearing of skin, just; blood and an arrow. "How are you so beautiful when you're supposed to be dead?" Julian muttered under his breath, not realizing he was speaking his thoughts out loud.

Julian raised his eyebrows. He dipped his head closer, and suddenly, he could feel heat rising from her cheek. There was some color there too, a light crimson surfacing. "What the-"

Her eyes shot open in a jolt, all while the blood beneath her neck vanished, disappearing into the mattress. She gently wrapped her hands around Julian's neck and in a split second, pulled his head down fully to her. Her eyes were lighter than he remembered. A soft blue traced with a black outlining. The fierceness in them were trancelike.

"She's alive!" yelled Elliot. Julian stayed silent.

"Bring the paramedics over here, the girl is not dead!" hollered another cop.

She looked at him deeply, ignoring every voice around them. Without a second thought, she crashed her lips against his.

To say the least, he was taken aback. A moment ago Julian thought she was dead. And now she was awake and kissing him. It felt like a dream.

A very, very good dream.

He couldn't help himself. Her lips were smooth and creamy and tasted like chocolate and strawberries created especially by Aphrodite herself. She tasted so good and she felt so good, and Julian just could. Not. Help. Himself. He realized what was happening and returned the intimacy twice as hard.

His hand cupped her cheek and his lips moved against hers. Over and over and over again. Or at least that's what it felt like. Forever.

It wasn't, but it could've been.

"What the hell is going on?"

"Officer Redsor get over here! Get the girl to the hospital NOW. I think she's lost her mind."

"She must be delusional. Why is she kissing Officer Korera?"

"Somebody get her help for f***s sake!"

"Quick, before she drops again."

Voices and more voices and constant chatter filled his ears, but he didn't care. All he could focus on was her lips locked with his. She was almost inhumane, Julian didn't have a hard time believing those wings were real. To him, she was an angel. And she was also alive.

"Julian! Officer Korera get off her now and get this girl to the bloody hospital!"

He pulled back and looked into her. "Who are you?" Julian whispered for her ears only.

She merely blinked. No voice response, no smile, just a blink. She stared him dead in the eyes, and he wasn't quite able to tell what emotion they were emitting.

She was a mystery.
