Dreams

Dreams

A Poem by Williamson Groos

My yesterdays are full of memories,
and my tomorrows are full of potential.
But my todays are full of dreams.
Some days I wake up and dream
of changing the world,
and some days I wake up and dream
of leaving it altogether.
I have memories of happiness,
and memories of sadness.
I have potential for success,
and potential for failure.
My dreams are simply dreams.
I decide what they hold.
I can travel the world living
culture to culture
learning new languages,
trying new foods,
meeting new people every single day.
Or maybe I can lock myself in
a small log cabin
surrounding myself with every book worth reading.
Twice.
I can live my life among the ink stained pages,
only to pause between each binding of life
to watch the snow pile up on the bare branches
of the trees outside my window,
and listen to the crackling of flames
that burn in a hole in my wall.
Yesterday's memories make me wish
I had gone to sleep sooner.
Tomorrow's potential makes me want
to never wake up.
I just want to live today's dreams.
