Secrets

Secrets

A Poem by Huggy Bear
"

Souls are safes for our secrets

"
Souls are safes for our secrets
Only we know the combination
In our safe we keep a lot within
Our secrets tell a story we dare not share
We are ashamed by it

We try to take our secrets to the grave
For many it is easier said then done
Life has ways to bring out secrets to light
Alcohol can show and amplify our darkness

It disables our logic and defenses
When we least suspect
Others lurk and trigger us
To admit what we hide

The worst way to show yourself
Is confiding in someone
Trust is a fickle thing
A "friend" can trick you
They place an illusion of trust and security

We as humans are compel to share
We do not want to carry the burden of darkness
When its said and done our past is safe for a moment
There is no sense in controlling secrets
It is foolish to do so
What we can control is the effect secrets hold

I really enjoyed this poem. Its description of the losing battle all humans fight with their secret inner demons really resonated with me, as did the message about how it isn't necessarily wise to suppress the darkness inside of us, and that it might be better to embrace that darkness and wrestle with it in an effort to improve ourselves. That's what the poem meant to me. Again, I enjoyed reading it. Keep up the good writing.
