A Friend Like You

A Friend Like You

A Poem by Amanda

Can you tell me what the sound of truth is?
Do you even remember?
If I must refresh your mind,
Let me take you back to December.

I used to believe the words you spoke,
I was so blind back then you see.
I trusted what you said,
I hadn’t any idea what a monster you could be.

We told each other all our secrets,
As many little white lies as we could hold.
If I had only known back then,
My secrets I never would have told.

My back bled cold and viciously,
Inside dug deep was your knife.
At that point I was living in hell,
As you tried to slowly devour my life.

Yes, I took a blade to my leg
Because I didn’t know how to handle you.
I trusted you with all I had,
You were one of the only few.

It took quite a while
But I got your blade out of my spine.
You hoped I would be down and out,
But I stand here today to say I’m fine.

I’m alive after what you did,
I survived all you put me through.
But I would wish this on no one else ever,
No one deserves a friend like you.

A friend that would stab you in the back
And lie straight to your face;
Twist and rip the truth,
Sprinkling lies on top like lace.

For three years I could never see
That all you cared about was you.
You deserve to be alone,
Save others from the things you do.

You have plenty of acquaintances,
But you don’t have a real friend.
You don’t know how to be one in return,
And that’s how it will be to the very end.
