PATRIOT Poem

PATRIOT Poem

A Poem by Kenny Carcaterra

my country tis of me
for "thee" has gone astray
schoolyard bully
berating, belittling
demanding, destroying
like Kong run amok
in Manhattan
swatting at flies with
billion dollar sledgehammers
injecting

fear

cold, demented opiate

monstrous system
deluded, feeding on itself
drunk with power
sapping taxing squandering
our life and wealth
enslaving us
with our own ignorance
and apathy
