"Lost Ones"

"Lost Ones"

A Poem by Mufaro Kudakwashe Joseph Mangono
"

In Zimbabwe some children die of curable diseases on the grounds of religions see the Poem "the Lost ones reply". I wrote this when l was an atheist (shame on me!)

"

Wary of what l see

I believe it should not be

For in the blasphemy of reason they abandon knowledge

So as to cleanse their souls of scriptured pledges

That torments their little understanding

Lord l pray you save them

In their numbers they flock

As they go to sit upon a rock

As they await their turn to be healed

In belief their fortunes will be revealed

And in white the leaders are dressed

And in contaminated water they baptise the cursed

So as to abandon them of past terror

And introduce them to a new era

And l do understand their fear

For surely the kingdom is near

But what they say l do not

For most seem to act the wrong plot

And as they learn to breathe in water

It makes you realise our stay is now shorter

But however they say Jesus did come

And those who took heed are only some.
