A Time to Let Go

A Time to Let Go

A Poem by Melody Telleria
"

We all had to let go of that one summer love.

"

Girl with shimmering eyes, her look so enchanting to passerby's,

that trail of suns kisses across cheekbones and nose,

blooming lips like a freshly plucked rose set amidst creamy skin

once glowing now looking morose. Melancholia tinged

humming escapes them, the lulling bewitch of sad whispery prose.

She lies in a field of sunflowers adorned by butterflies,
as bees lazily buzz by,

the humid heat creating pearly drops of sweat that glide under white cotton

and pool between her breasts. Subtle breeze moves through the petals

that shade the sun framed by cotton candy clouds and with arm over eyes

she continues to dream while the summer sun molests.

Dreams, as the lily-filled brook not afar undulates whispers of waters,

crystalline and serene in it's pebble bottomed beauty with mossy green sheen,

cool splashes against banks lined with daisies and soft, clay mud.

Reveling in images of the man who swam in her gaze all summer long

and enraptured her heart with tales of eloping, their love infinite and strong.

Lazy rocking on the creaky, wooden bench at the edge

of the field that led into the woods where pretty promises

were a temporary quench of the longing and hopelessness

they misunderstood for freedom and meaning in days so bleak,

their belief in a future beyond their woods painted with adventurous streaks.

Last summer passed and they parted ways, after plans sworn

to the heavens amongst passionate sighs and warm bodies caressed,

sacred sensations washed away hovering shadows intent and depressed.

Two young souls desperate to escape the stifling prison

of family dysfunction and minds lacking drive and vision.

On the day agreed, during sticky midsummer when the air was heavy

with nothingness and dullness and the birds got ready to fly away,

she reached their rickety bench with a backpack hanging low on her shoulders,

her long hair in sweet disarray. A pretty origami bird sat on the bench

and with heart compressing and desperation settling she quickly began to pray.

On the wings of the bird, two words: Fly Free. Swallowing a sob

and struggling to understand she ran blindly through sunflower stalks

and her heart sought to demand. Answers. Reasons. But she'd never know why.

Just the plea to  "Fly Free." Seeking comfort on the soft earth underneath

she began her hum so sweet. A time to love, a time to hate.

A time to let go for her own future to unfold.

Another vivid masterpiece of you part. I loved it as always.

While I do love your vivid poems, you know I do.

have you ever tried writing something simplistic and straight to the point all the while using your unique writing style?

Thanks Amanda, I'm happy you enjoyed it.
Not bad. You use some really great imagery in this piece, and your concept is well-thought-out. You've executed it fairly well, and while I do think there are parts to this that could be cut in the interests of simplicity and brevity, at present it's still very readable. Good work.
