She Walks Under the Moonlight

She Walks Under the Moonlight

A Poem by Melody Telleria

An eerie hum escaping the gentle part

of her lightly glistened lips.

Lips that should be tinged in rose,

not blending into her youthful face

so lovely, yet morose.

She walks under the moonlight,

casting a shadow so delicate and frail.

A shimmering gown of silver

hugs her figure and hides her soul,

Her humming is a wordless, haunting tale.

A life of high born comfort,

the endless tittering and smiles.

She wishes fervently it was enough,

to settle into the simple world of religion and mindless bliss.

Deep thinking led to a world of questioning and silent trials.

She walks with tears and a slow rain

trickling down her face.

There's guilt behind the downcast eyes,

sorrow in the melody that seeps from her heart,

for things done and said that can't be erased.

Betrayal for adventure, an overwhelming sickness she feels

because the truth is that a rightful remorse

is just not there.

She feels alive for the very first time and is that so wrong?

Walking on she reaches jagged cliffs and looks back,

her tapered fingers splayed on her chest,

the humming slowly fades into the raging sea,

a ghostship awaiting, forboding and menacing.

How can she live, she contemplates,

a life of unquenchable thirst and unrest?

The pale hand of earthly desires beckons her to return.

"Live for yourself, you beautiful child of seasons," he whispers.

His silken voice tucking her hair behind her ear.

Under the moon, that vast orbiter of our chaos,

she stands in sheer vulnerability.

Looming trees in the dark growing with the rage of the night.

She's a vision of innocence in her supple gown,

her eyes widened in despair and anxiety.

A step forward to living with emotions wild and rampant,

a black hole of delicious confusion.

Or a step back, off the threatning cliffs,

her spirit to sail away. Will is solve the burden

of how much she cares?

And how much she wishes she couldn't care

and toss away this dismay?
