We can ignore reality all we like, pretend the end is never coming ... But it is ...

How do we not think of death,

as it lurks in the distance near,

pretending no loss of breath,

today, next week, next year?

Always in the future far ahead,

do we place that time to go,

a million years of being dead,

we pretend we just don't know.

Pretending is what we do best,

hiding ourselves from the truth,

living lives we hope are blessed,

for there is no fountain of youth.

Tomorrow is today, a day away,

our hope of prolonging the end,

over our death we hold no sway,

'cause death just doesn't pretend.

Keep death in sight. Keep the reality of it. It is not the end though; it is a passageway to another world.

Thank you Alla ...!
"Let the dead go bury their own dead." Jesus Christ in Luke 9:60 "Man's purpose is to live, not merely to exist." Jack London
I suppose I model my own idea of material existence on those two quotations. Life's too short not to enjoy every blessing it has to offer; every sunset, every mountain view, every glorious, beautiful, productive and worthwhile experience our minds can conceive. Art in its many forms is a mere expression of man's slippery grasp on his desire for immortality. It was what Shelley meant with his Ozymandias. It's in the draped melting clocks of Dali. It's the heart of Philippe de Champaigne's "Vanity". Maybe we need to think about what we're doing and focus on that every moment of life rather than our demise. It's certainly a waste of time to either deny or protest the inevitable. But maybe we can make the most of what we have, even if it is temporary. I enjoyed the read. F.
