Within soft wisps of willows, and the chirping of crickets near,

the cool breeze speaks of wicked deeds and evil for one to fear,

he digs in darkness to pile damp earth beneath the stars above,

seeking the cover of darkened day to hide that which he loves.

Buried treasure 'tis oft kept best if within the earth it's hidden,

secrets hid from prying eyes seldom speak of things forbidden,

his sweated toil worth each drop as he stands to neck in earth,

upon his face a savage smile spawns a sadistic chuckle's birth.

Emotions elude a conscience numbed dead beyond any regrets,

'tis a mighty fine grave he's dug so he sees no reasons for frets,

visiting hours lasting 'til dawn with one last tamp of the shovel,

then off he'll be to home again to ponder upon all life's rubble.

Only a mind cruelly demented could become a master of death,

believing his divine purpose is to deprive each victim of breath,

angry as society attempts to deny pleasure to his sickened soul,

that sound of utter ecstasy as each victim goes thud in its hole.

His victims got to know him, but only for the shortest of times,

what could they've been thinking as upon their flesh he dined?

Hiding his hobby so discreetly in hopes of one day going pro,

he takes pride in becoming that killer so few folks ever know.

Your words remind me of one of my favorite movies titled "Mr. Brooks" starring Kevin Costner. In this flick, he too is a serial killer and is indeed captivating as is your vivid description of the happenings of this fellow who's obviously a pro at what he is undertaking as shovel clangs with each treasure of dank earth being readied to become host to another of his victims. He shudders with the utter ecstasy of the fulfillment of his desire to chalk up another name on his list of those demised by his unending penchant to capture, mutilate, and then prepare the remains for a banquet to satisfy his taste for the morbid.

Excellent descriptions of your Hannibal, your Master of Regurgitated Demise!

A clandistine serial killer and if there is one even worse than another I reckon it's thoses that hide in plain sight, perhaps a well known, respectable member of the local community, yep, history tells us there have been such individuals and likely are today...

A chillingly gruesome poetic tale with a cannabalistic edge, appropriate for the upcoming Halloween scary season, kept on edge right to last line, and that's excactly the whole skill in good writing particularly with this genre!!
