“Happiness
is but a falling star, a blazing moment of brilliance beheld, that
cannot be held, nor possessed, much like sighting a falling star in
the blackest of deepest darkest night that holds one's emotional
senses' attention ever so briefly due to the all too surreal reality
of falling stars always burning up in all consuming dedication to
lighting up our nights, or falling to Earth as burned out cinders of
ugly iron laden stone that, if found and owned, shall never have us
witness its individual blazing moment of brilliance, ever, again …
And so, in order to see happiness, again -- if it should, perchance,
be that we are so blessed -- we must endure that darkness of night
in patiently awaiting that next spark of happiness so bright ...” -- Marvin Thomas Cox-Flynn de Graham
Interesting philosophical observation here. Happiness, which theoretically we all seek, is shown to be the result of contrast, the example offered being that of the brilliant star standing out against the blackness of the night sky. In our lives this translates as our ability to know happiness because of our ability to feel pain. It is noted that we cannot hold or possess happiness. This is certainly true on the conscious level of mind, but I wonder if on the deeper levels it is possible to be happiness.

Having been homeless at one point in my life, I do know how to get by, how to be content, with nothing, whatsoever ... Contentment is a true key to happiness, as is appreciation for that which we do have, and those whom we have with us in this life ... But, try telling all this to a young know it all generation ... Endure the bad to taste the good...but sometimes the appetizer takes way too long, and then the salad course...and by the time we get to the entree which is bad...by the time we get through it, it is
so late for dessert that we should have figured out that we created the bad ourselves...and should
have eaten at a more place of more peace and understanding.
I really appreciate the metaphor here, Marvin.
