I've made so many mistakes over the years, causing you much grief and so many tears,
in always loving you and yet still somehow, failing to live up to our wedding day vows,
spoken of honor as love always to cherish, until that day when at last we both perish,
as time painted upon your smile a frown, anger's attire replacing a wedding gown,
our marriage shriveling in sad discourse, as hurts so painfully doomed it to divorce,
the mind forgets but the heart remembers, a flame that raged though now is embers,
years passed as the embers burned bright, you knew not I thought of you each night,
not daring to dream of holding you again, much less to ever hope we could be friends,
then came that miracle day of sweet nights, on Passover as your eyes shined so bright,
as suddenly you melted into my arms again, embers exploding into flames of back when,
we were both young with you so beautiful, beauty shining radiantly this night dutiful,
my mind shouting, “O what a blessed plight,” 'cause kissing your lips has always felt right ...
