Real life, a woman raising kids who never gave it a thought as to the sacrifice that she made for them all, in never giving it a thought ...

She carried them each inside her womb,

and they never gave it a thought --

feeding them from breast to baby spoon

and they never gave it a thought.

She put all her personal dreams on hold

and they never gave it a thought --

so that she might see their dreams unfold

and they never gave it thought.

She did without fancy, frilly, pretty, things

and they never gave it a thought --

slaving to pay for their graduation rings

and they never gave it a thought.

She hid her tears as each child moved away

and they never gave it a thought --

to reminisce of days of watching them play

and they never gave it thought.

She sat all alone on so many lonely nights

and they never gave it thought --

to wonder if to be forgotten was her plight

and they never gave it a thought.

She was overjoyed to see them at her door

and they never gave it thought --

cooking food she did not have once more

and they never gave it a thought.

She cleaned up the mess they left behind

and they never gave it a thought --

in hoping for help from the welfare line

and they never gave it thought.

She gave them gifts on birthdays and such

and they never gave it a thought --

spent her last dime in loving them so much

and they never gave it a thought.

She wished not to be a burden in her death

and they never gave it a thought --

in making payments against her last breath

and they never gave it a thought …

________

She looked so peaceful in her plain dress,

and they had never given it a thought --

having no fine clothes in which to dress,

and they had never given it a thought ...

She had closed her eyes, pictures in hand,

and they had never given it a thought --

leaving this world for the promised land,

and they had never given it a thought ...

She gave up her life to raise her children --

and she never gave it a thought ...

yes, it is a bummer, however, reality is that a huge number of us experience the same thing.
We have two older grandchildren living next door and in the same vein, I can't remember the last time either one initiated contact.
An unfortunate situation well expressed

You are welcome my friend.
A mother's sacrifice for the betterment of her kids, watching them grow, cooking for them, loving them, buying all of their toys, books, and they never thought about it, never said thank you. Nor did the mother ever wish things were different because she loved her children too much for that. A mother's sacrifice goes deeper than the surface, children may not see it now, but when they get older and wiser it will be shown. Thanks for sharing this candid piece!

A truly raw and beautiful piece, it raised anger inside me as well at the sacrifices made from a wonderful woman that were completely unappreciated. Knowing the back story stirred up more in me my friend. I really think its an ecxcellent poem in its brutal honesty and the emotions it provokes

This is such a stirring tribute to your late wife, Marve.
She must have been one hell of a lady...Never gave it a thought.
It reminds me of my dad and how he was. Always put my mom first, then my sister and me.
He never did for himself...always for us...and I doubt he ever gave it a second thought, either.

Beautiful poem about the unconditional love a mother gives to her children. She will go to the end of the earth for them. On the other hand some of the young can be selfish and uncaring. I thank my lucky stars that I am appreciated. Sometimes we don't know what we've got till it's gone. A fine composition, a tribute to a selfless lady.
