In denial of reality, youth doth speak,

in attesting dreams and other things,

we hope for as futures we avidly seek,

accomplishments happiness 'twill bring,

ignoring inevitability's certain flight,

towards sunset and the coming night.

College, good job, more money please,

Phd, Bachelor's Degree, be not scoffed,

climbing ladder rungs is all we can see,

in seeking merriment's way to get off,

ignoring that which we know is right,

towards sunset and the coming night.

But we have all the time in the world,

our life to live out with no end in sight,

blind to what is over the hill unfurled,

shocked to grasp that which is our plight,

the end of the road it don't seem right,

towards sunset and the coming night.

Ignoring ruts of those who have passed,

down this same road before us in time,

far too busy in having a pleasure's blast,

shocked that life and death don't rhyme,

cycles of Life now revealed in the light,

towards sunset and the coming night.

Immortality is ours we surely thought,

wanted to go to heaven but never die,

as living forever can never be bought,

and facing our death a poke in the eye,

the confines of a coffin found too tight,

towards sunset and the coming night.

And all the time we had is now gone,

lived far too fast on a spending's spree,

lying in our graves as Life moves on,

never believing it would be you, or me,

for some reason it just don't seem right,

towards sunset and the coming night ...

As the sun has set, and night has arrived,

to never rise again, to relive our lives ...

Good morning dearest Marvin,
Another interesting poem... which reads like a story.
Yes, hoping our lives will never end... not understanding the reason why...
seems so hard to deal with..
I enjoyed your words...
May I make a small suggestions? I think your image of should be bigger... As your poem is as large as life itself..
Hugs, Lisa
