We are no more than words upon paper,

of time lived,

consumed in the living of life,

that shall see us die,

within the flames of life's inescapable end,

that culminates in the dust and ashes

 -- of our never having been …

I agree
I have a four tier bookcase near my bed
Full of my mother’s old photo albums
Mine and my sisters and my aunts too
I feel all our lives summed up in total in these pages
Plastic sheets holding memories that in future generations no one will really care about
But the important thing is now what we do this second not the future
Well done it really made me think about the word

Maybe we should chisel our poems on the walls of caves :) They may have more of a chance of surviving then. At some point all my efforts will be gone, that is a fact. Whether it is in ten years or a hundred, who knows. Liked this piece Marvin. Pleased to meet you.

Yes, Chisling our poetic efforts to stone might help a tiny bit, but I am speaking of that great poetic effort that is our lives, our every breathing, living moment, until death with only friends and family to choose to remember or recall what and who we were and determine to keep our memories alive for as long as they live ... After that ...? ... Who knows, and who will give a damn ...?

sadly there is not such thing as forever, eternity or immortality, for, sooner or later, even the best Poet/author/person in the world shall be forgotten and swept beneath the rug of eons gone by ...

Oh, now don't go make-in Shakespeare, Rudyard Kipling, Robert Burns, Oscar Wilde, John Milton, John Keats, Charlotte Bronte, & Charles Dickens all depressed about their standing on the endurance pages of history. And those are just a few. However, you may be right when quoting the Good Book. ... "Ah, vanity, vanity, all is vanity and chasing after the wind."

Thanks for reading Jacob, and yes fire would destroy written copies, the power grid going do would render our PC's useless, and if one dares to write and compose on the net and fails to back his/her writing up, if the Net goes down one shall be screwed and tattooed ... LOL! ... Though, I am actually speaking of us as Human Beings, in this particular instance ...
