Breaking innocence taking innocence

Breaking innocence taking innocence

A Poem by SarahCortland
"

taking innocence

"
Who knew something so beautiful could break?
Something so delicate and right.
Who would want such a thing?

To dull what was so bright?

Why would you seek to destroy
To ruin that girl
To break all her dreams

And send her life in a whirl.

Why would you make a promise
And leave without a word
Telling her you cared
                                                                    And knowing she heard

                                                                  To hold her tight
And take from her heart
Knowing she trusted you

Believing in a new start

Then leave her with only a hope
A hope you knew was wrong.
You knew you weren't returning

And her wait would be long.

So why would you want this
 To let that girl cry
Leaving her so broken

And wondering why

                                                               How could you do this
To someone so pure.
A heart of gold,

and innocence that you smashed with a lure.

daPRINCESS101,

The giving away of innocence is so sad yet acceptable to self because it was given, yet when innocence is taken especially with someone who makes promises for gain, it is tragic.

This is a portrayal of pure love taken advantage and for granted - a tragedy of love meeting betrayal, so unfair.

Your poem brings sadness to my heart; I have a little girl - to hear this fills my soul with fear for her.

I applaud you for this poem, you have done your deed... know that your words will bring courage to someone who may be or have gone through this same scenario.

I love the rhythm of this. It reads so well on the screen, and such great questions to bring up...

This is not a poem for the faint of heart.
Its definitely one of the hardest mistakes to live with.
You created something magnificent here.
Such wisdom and soul.
