Maybe I....

Feeling that I could have done something different

Maybe I need to sleep a little longer
Because every time I awake it kills
Maybe I just need to disappear 
To forget how bad this feels

Maybe I should have walked away
And listened to my screaming heart
Maybe I should have run as far as I could
Cuz I knew it was wrong from the start.

Maybe I should have pushed him away
Instead of letting him so far in
Maybe I should have been more cold
So he wouldn't win 

Maybe I should have followed my heart
Remembering all the past times I'd been burned 
Maybe I should have shook myself
Reminding me of what I'd learned 

Maybe I would have been better off
If I had never met you
Maybe I should try to forget
And pretend none of it was true 

Maybe I'll never know
Where we could have been
Maybe I'll be better off 
Knowing your not who you were then

Hinesight is great if only we could have it in the present instead of reflecting on it from the past. So many Maybe's shows the emotions inside, the blinders that were removed, the truth that rains in now. Would have, could have, should have all forms of hinesight. Very good write of self reflection and internal thoughts of what could have been done differently.

Your feeling come through very strong, I could feel the hurt and pain. Just one thing you started talking to the reader about him and toward the end you changed to talking to him. It doesn't hurt the poem but it would make it a stronger write if you keep it concistent (sp?)
