oh how easy the heart is to deceive

I wrote this with the concept think with your mind for our hearts are easy to deceive.

I don't want to believe it happened
for then I will know the pain is real.
I don't want these tears to fall
For my other wounds have not had time to heal.

I know in my mind what is true
but my heart doesn't need to know.
For I'd rather lie to myself
than have to let you go.

Even my mind can't wrap around the truth.
It has been told but wishes to deny.
For it knows the holes uncovered in my heart
and so it questions why.

My heart so little and tattered.
Today handing me the truth.
Realization hitting both mind and heart.
The lies breaking as I hit the booth.

I see your casket.
My heart fills with pain.
My mind in a rush around me.
Even my tears I cannot contain.

So my mind tells my heart
Not to listen and not to believe
In the end I will have to lie to myself
and my heart will be the easiest to deceive

Author's Note

My great grandma died and up until the funeral I didn't want to believe it. And do to the fact the last funeral I went to was a friends so I refused to look at her body because it scares me. I was able to deceive my heart through everything.
