A lessonA Poem by SarahCortlandA lesson
I didn’t care what you thought I didn’t care who you were You were so unimportant My life was a blur I thought I knew everything I thought I could do it all To me you were nothing I couldn’t fall I thought it was worthless I saw no reason to learn I knew everything I needed to My heart could never burn I was ahead Then he came along My heart was left broken And my thoughts turned out wrong You held me together You told me the truth You showed me the way I graduated from my youth Though as the years passed I began to forget Your lessons lost I was so naive I had to learn another cost. The next time you weren’t there I had taken another wrong turn You had warned me again and again Though it wasn’t till now I realized the lesson I hadn’t wanted to learn Sometimes we all fall Though we have to keep on I always left you And now you’re gone © 2010 SarahCortlandAuthor's Note
