Falling for a friend but never realizing they are the one you need the most and have always been there.

Why couldn't I see it was you
while you stood in the midst always waiting?
Why couldn't I admit what I feel
always denying and continually debating?

Why couldn't I let you be him
while you held me close and wiped my tears?
Why did I push you away
when you comforted all my fears?

Why didn't I say it back
when you told me you loved me with tears on your cheeks?
Why did I deny it all
when we didn't speak for weeks?

Why did I let you walk away
when you gave me a second chance?
Why didn't I ignore you were my friend
when you kissed me at the dance?

Why was I always scared you would leave
when you always proved more than less?
Why did I have to keep questioning
until you asked and I admittedly said yes?
