Magnificent Humor

Magnificent Humor

A Poem by Nicole Clarice Anna Wiest

If only you knew

the half of my story.

Struggles no one should have to bare.

I hide it well with modesty;

A smile on my face,

always.

No one would ever guess

that this recovering addict,

this teen parent,

this survivor of things better left unsaid,

was the one to light up a room.

It has always been that way.

But the difference is,

I once lit a room with the flame of my anger -

my drugs - my misfortune.

Now I am the one with the golden smile;

The one who is envied by most.

Others only dream of such spirit,

such joy.

What they don't know however,

is that they are all fools.

Tricked by a happy, innocent looking thing.

Fools! .. I have made them.

And as I laugh under my breath,

they still continue on with life

Envying,

Wishing,

Wondering,

how I became such a magnificent being.

Ha!

This is great....I really enjoyed reading this. It's well written and the specific feeling, or set of, is expressed well so that even a reader who can't "relate" could at least appreciate your perspective and experience. You have my respect in regards to your survival through life's strange/hard times. This is a great write! Keep it coming my young Canadian friend ; )

But it seems that your whole story is told right here in your poetry.
Nice to meet you.

Don't we all wish the same thing as becoming the magnificent things. But, we all already are whenever we notice it or not. We're still standing and keep on living the lives that we dare to dream of, no matter how hard it is, yet we're still standing and doing our best to move on as well...

Anyway, there's a quite a few things that need to be adjusted in some several ways, but hey, that's just me, so don't mind me. On the other hands, it's all still good there...

well after trauma.....you will need confidence......... not many can have a positive outcome especially from a drug addiction or from low self-esteem....... once you have your self-esteem back then its easier to have magnificent humor,,,,, it makes the joy sweeter after so much as pain....... especially when u have a child to look after...that should force you to be stronger.....cuz no one else is going to take care of the baby

Thank you for requesting I read this. It is inspiring. I have taken the liberty of changing the first few lines. I think by using the same repetitive sentence structure you use later in the poem adds to its strength. Of course, being so strong it really does not need anything, just something for you to think over.

If only you knew
half my story, just half.
The struggles no one should have to bare.
So well hidden with modesty;
Always a smile on my face -
always.
