Live and Die by Water

Live and Die by Water

A Poem by Matt Fellows

Tubes contain concoctions to aid you,

You didn’t pick the scabs but did you help them heal?

Stammered breath whilst you pray to keep your youth,

Who sings the song once you’re gone?

Lobsters live and die by water,

Who drenched you then turned up your heat?

Lying dormant on a plank of wood in my dreams,

Why did you turn to face me?

Pale and apologies oozing from your eyes,

Did I see you mouthing my name?

Croaking that you’re sorry you weren’t there,

Did you catch me hanging my head until you disappeared?

Heaven sinned and so we are both here for now.
