Shamed Rapture

Shamed Rapture

A Poem by Matt Fellows

Rapture of an outstretched hand,

Destruction of the engraved dignity,

Deeper into the bed secrets seeped,

A growl of hatred that felt like infinity,

Goodnight isn’t meant to linger forever,

Both day and night brought the ornaments out,

Gripped by shame and a lifetime of discretion,

The child in me unchained the lout,

Focused on the wall to find the happy face,

All I could feel is contaminated fear,

Waiting for the clock to stop ticking,

Knowing you’re done when I hear you sneer,

Unhindered sleep won’t come to me,

The dreams still haunt my slumber,

Not getting caught is a portal to shame,

Were your intentions ever encumbered?
