Blanketed

Blanketed

A Poem by Matt Fellows

Blanketed names to blanket human defeat,

Blanketed beds to hide under the sheets,

The ocean pulls back the shores debris,

Yet the flames aren’t put out by the sea,

The same blues hang around over my cloud,

Replenishing the rain that longs for the ground,

The leaves are still carried in by the breeze,

Yet the strong winds won’t carry them back to the trees,

Water spills and spirals down the gutter,

Oxidising steel that's man made to be tougher,

I guess that sometime tough skin has to shed,

And scorched skin is left either tender or dead,

Sleep doesn’t come at night when perturbed,

But during the day I could sleep undisturbed,

Curtains are there to shut out the night,

Yet we open them to embrace blinding light,

Inspiration strikes yet it’s not often violent,

But the outcome depends upon our environment,

Turn my head straight to the side,

Yet watchful eyes help me reside.

Insomnia is a curse. I'm a sufferer but if I am anxious, it gets a whole lot worse. Enjoyed the description in your lines and they also gave me a feeling of restlessness. Your final line made me think of the stars that look over me. I have a skylight in my room. First of yours I have read Matt. All the best.
