The One

The One

A Poem by Debbie
"

Relationship

"

So you want to be my lover?
So you say that I’m "The One!"
But will you be my friend when the loving comes undone?
What is this need for owning; for exclusivity?
What crooked path inside your heart won’t let my love be free?
You know not what love is
When you confine it in a cage
Love given only to the actors
Who choose to remain upon the stage
Inside the box, inside the lines, preconceptions inside Our mind
Our insecurities
Its not love if it can’t continue
When change is in the air
When furniture is rearranged
When I choose to cut my hair
You don’t want to love me. You want to possess!
Sensuousness, sexuality; my wildness you’d undress.
Like a hunter, you want to control.
You want to kill what’s free.
Then walk away from the carcass.
Like you walked away from me
Saying I’ve changed.
You did not lose me. I was never yours to lose.
