Glass Heart

Glass Heart

A Poem by Shafeeq Khan
"

It's an experimental free verse poem.

"

I've been working on a project for a while

Polishing and sanding off the rough edges

There isn't really a due date on when it'll be done

But if i figure it out, I’ll let you know

The project beats and thumps

It can feel the whole world beneath it

hating, loving, laughing, crying, everything

the project pulsates

I always think I’m done

I present it for customers to see

There's a lot I put into this project

my hopes, my life, my dreams

What come out of it?

Regret.

Shot down. To live with this broken project

Its beats but it’s hard to hear the sound

unless you’re looking for it

Some people end up taking interesting into the project

they don't mock it, no, they actually like it

Things finally lift up, a customer takes my project up and up

into the dense fluff of the clouds

everything feels surreal now, there's no doubt

A wave of drunken happiness washes over me

and before I can finish the smile, it's gone

the project in the clouds descends

I sink into the grass and mend

I picked the project up and checked inside the box

the project was scattered in fragmented pieces

yet it still beats, even when ripped apart

gazing into the shards I see an image shown

the wooden man’s reflection in the glass heart

Wow Shafeeq this is good stuff. I like how you have kept the metaphor of a project for a heart all through out the poem without wavering in the slightest.
