Addiction

By: Nick Workman

.. ..

He wakes up midday

Teeth aching; knees shaking

Addiction won’t go away

Who’s he really faking?

Watch him cipher through his s**t

You know what he’s looking for

Just one last hit

He knows it’s somewhere in that drawer

Nothing else around him matters

To him everyone is a ghost

Not caring who’s world he shatters

Because he has nothing to boast

If only someone could help him out

But he won’t let them close enough

He lives a world drowned in doubt

Every step for him if rough

But he brought this all upon himself

No one forced his behavior

He doesn’t need to try to be stealth

But it’s just his nature

This vicious cycle won’t ever end

Until he finds his strength or dies

These demons he’ll forever fend

Before judgment, try seeing through his eyes…

I like this..short and to the point. I like the words you chose, and how you rhymed with them. Clearly depicts the point, and yet makes a lasting impression.
