21st Century Byron

21st Century Byron

A Poem by Phi Coulthard
"

A poem about a person who thinks he's the 21st Century version of Lord Byron.

"
He gave her a rose
Because Syphilis wasn’t god enough
The results still the same
Scars and worries
A True Valentines Day gift
The true romantic
Trapped in the wrong time
Propping up bars and brothels
Too talented for the world who shunned him
Not big enough for the woman he loved
He tried to write Impressionism
But came up with the unknown genre
A winters scene nobody could see
The tribute to his broken thoughts
The language we never understood
One day they’ll stand over his grave
The few will wipe a tear
But the many won’t care
Echoes will ring in bars and silence will haunt
Songs maybe sung
But will soon fade
He was the man not made for this century
Following the steps of many men
The dead and gone
The Ghost in books
The worlds true romantic
Our 21st century Byron
