Life Lessons 101

Life Lessons 101

A Story by Joy Carver

There are many sad lessons in life. But none quite like the betrayal of a friend. Most people you come across in life our innately selfish. Your relationship with them are for their personal gain to some extent. Whether it be to cure a brief period of loneliness, to aid in some laughs, fill a spot of emptiness or they see a touch of themselves in you. It doesn't really matter why friendships, relationships or acquaintances are formed. They serve whatever purpose they had for you or the other person for the period of time they are suppose to. Short periods, long times or forever times. Lessons or blessings they say... Once in awhile somebody comes into your life and a deeper connection was made. You find you share deep parts of your life and your feelings when normally these stay buried deep and unspoken. Never having felt you could ever say them out loud for fear they would be too real. For whatever reason you feel safe enough to let the wall down and to share. They share with you as well. You feel that you found a true friend...or so you thought. But in time you figure out that it wasn't true. It was all just a mirage, a game, you were just a friend of convenience. Facts are you were their scapegoat, their denials, their excuses, their toy they played with at will. You find you were used when needed and tossed when you have no use any longer. All you did was get fooled by the person you allowed closest to you. The master game player. The one you laughed with, shared with, defended, fought for and stood behind even when they were wrong and like the fool you are, you find you still do. Secrets and stories shared still kept when no visible reason exists except that's just the loyal person you are. You have to face the facts now. The stark realization that you have been had by someone who trumps all others who have hurt you in the past. This one you allowed to hurt you, in fact you invited them in to your stronghold. You gave them the tools, the keys to it all. You in essence, asked for it. So it's just sad. No profound eloquent words exist to speak or write to describe the feelings. Just sad. And you find a lesson has taken the place of the blessing...and so life continues how it is meant but with one more notch on the should have known better belt. Some people like to call this growth. I call this a sad path to loneliness...to each his own path
