The Clown's Tears

The Clown's Tears

A Poem by Matthew
"

The famous "hobo clown," Emmett Kelley was the inspiration for this free-form poem.

"

Once I knew a clown.

How I laughed at his antics!
His red nose displayed so prominently
made me smile.

I cheered as he chased a spotlight
across the floor.
I waved gleefully as he rode by
in his silly little car.

I can remember the smells
of popcorn.
The tang of cotton candy
in the air.

Once I knew a clown.

He rode an elephant's back!
His giant shoes flapping so audibly
made me smile.

Why did the clown cry?
