Merry Christmas, Give Us Your Money

Merry Christmas, Give Us Your Money

A Poem by Mpotavin

Heroes fall
under crumpled pages
hidden behind the glamorous,
deified
and the inevitable
holiday advertisement.
Full of green plastic men
boys really
A bag for 99 cents
and a note,
Do not blame us if they break.
Obesity, America’s secret dream
rings a bell, dressed in red
“Save the war, join Christmas.”
swaying
to the jingle and clink
of coins I’m sure.

About
I have stood before cameras and stage. Smiled or just screamed in rage. I have feasted and gorged, fasted and purged my soul balanced between darkness and light. I have held a man as he died, whispere.. more..
