![]() A CrushA Story by Mark P.![]() The first of three flash/short fiction stories I did for a writers' workshop class.![]() The woman had seen the man making deliveries into the office for not the first time. He was sophisticated, charming, and built like an Adonis…the perfect guy…Eduardo. “Do you have a girlfriend?” Amanda asked him one day when she brought up the courage to talk to him. The man’s curly brown locks
glistened in the air as he shook his head and his blue eyes sparkled like the
ocean as he showed a slight ray of brilliance in his mouth. “You mean to tell me that you’re single?” “I never said I was single; I just said I didn’t have a girlfriend.” “Oh so you’re married?” She felt humiliated; of course he was married all the good men are either married or gay. “You might say that, darlin’”. He called her DARLING! He must be interested!
A few days later Eduardo came into the office again, and Amanda could tell that something was bothering him. “What’s wrong?” She asked him putting her arm around her shoulder. Eduardo hesitated before repling “Oh Leslie and I aren’t working out.” “You two are getting a divorce?” “…you might say that.” Eduardo answered after a brief hesitation. “Well I know a perfect girl for you!” Amanda blurted with out thinking. Embarassed she put her hand to her mouth. Had she really just said that out loud? She was sure her face was fire-engine red but dared not look at a mirror.
Eduardo showed a slight smile..”I would sincerely doubt that my friend.” “Oh but I do. She’s a beautiful brunette with blue eyes that sparkle. She’s very smart and you two have a bunch in common.” She said this and batted her eyes at him.
Eduardo shook his head, “Trust me; you don’t know the perfect girl for me.” “You don’t even know who I’m talking about!” Amanda protested.
“I do.” He turned to her and smiled. “I know you’re talking about yourself and you’re simply not my type.” “I can be whatever type you want me to be!” “I’d doubt you could be THIS type.” “That’s not fair; you’re not even giving me a chance!” Eduardo sighed and put the scanner down. He looked at Amanda straight in the eye and saild extremely calmly: “Look I’m sure you’re a fantastic girl and any guy would be glad to have you…any straight guy. I’m gay.” “What does being happy have to do with why you’re not interested in me?!” Amanda cried out in oblivious protest. Eduardo simply stared at her for a few minutes before walking away allowing Amanda one last look at his firmly sculpted figure. © 2011 Mark P. |
