Small Windows of Time

for my Mom

I miss my Mom so so bad___

It makes me feel deeply sad.

 

All you can think of at 17 is leaving home___

when in all reality you will really miss having your Mom to lean on.

 

When your feeling down and in need of a shoulder to cry on,

there's no getting her back once she's gone.

 

I thought at 38 I'd be all grown up,

I didn't realize I'd miss and need her so much.

 

My Mom had drifted off in her own way___ 

Trust me, it was not her choice for this dismay. 

 

And all of the tears you can cry,

will not bring her back no matter how hard you try.

 

I feel cheated out of so much time,

because of the way she left was not her's in mind.

 

I'm so afraid what happened to my Mom will happen to me sometime,

so I'm trying to fit a lifetime of love in a small window of time.

 

I don't want my kids to miss a thing___ 

Times like this makes one realize

how much just one day can mean!

I am so sorry for your loss. The sadness in this poem is so recognizable and true. I am 30 and dread the day when my mom goes away. Although she has told me time and time again to have a party and celebrate her life, I know that I will miss her so much. Mothers and daughters have such a deep rooted connection that it is almost always such a sorrowful goodbye. Thank you for sharing this with us. Very well written.
