The Selfish Love of Mine

The Selfish Love of Mine

A Poem by Last-Surviving-Messor;
"

In English we had to write about the value of life, and almost having lost my dad quite a few times, I decided to write about him.

"

“For death is no more than a turning of us over from time to eternity.”

The cacophony of such a simple idiom

Resonates at the most deafening volume

For ears in dissent.

Perhaps it’s due to my own greed,

But I’m not ready to give you up

To the skeletal hands of death.

I have such a naïve conviction;

My father must be immortal;

Because a life without Dad is a life I don’t want to live.

You’ll live for an eternity in my metaphorical heart,

But that doesn’t mean I’m ready for the physical loss

Of the only father I’ll ever have.
