Breathe in the Night

Breathe in the Night

A Poem by Siobhan

Breathe in the Night

The shadowed line between love and lust blurs
in the silk of evening’s sunset. Each kiss
a blend of both, forget-me-not moments
we remember in our dreams and long for
when on waking we re-enter daylight.

Reality wraps herself around us
relegating to memory, time spent
deep in the fires of passion’s embrace,
each stroke of lover’s flesh on flesh recalled
when, paused for a breath, we breathe in the night.

Myths of what love truly is–and is not–
don’t haunt the lines we pen to spread the word,
they mix and mingle with our dreams instead
banked in our hearts ‘til fear releases them.

This is beautiful! What a wondrous thing it is when that line between love and lust blurs- and your poem describes the breaking of that boundary most eloquently. That sense of longing the whole day through is so true to life, when we must labor, and raise children, and keep a home in the daylight hours, waiting for nightfall to be wrapped in the arms of love. This is masterfully expressed, all of it, here in your three little stanzas. Bravo!!

Another hot, steamy sonnet . . . I'm so blessed to be your husband!
Any particular reason for the stanza scheme? I've seen you play with this a lot. It kind of throws me a bit, so I figured I ask. You've used the 5-5-4 a couple of times I recall.
You've got some great puns and parallel meanings here. I especially like "breathe in the night".
