this is another love poem.A Poem by Addie Santos
this is another love poem you probably stumbled at midnight,
waiting and praying that this poem would leave you with the lighting shaking under your pores and after shakes of beautiful, euphoric thoughts to be reborn again and again at the course of midnight to four am. not at all. this is a poem about how badly you want what you can't have. you kissed the corners of my lips and made my knees the stage for each of your finger's dance of ballet and do countable pirouettes. i told you that i would bake you cookies for your trip to montana but you knew damn well knew i didn't know how to crack a single egg but i made you oatmeal cookies anyway and you accepted it and tried it like they weren't made of hard concrete and burnt. good acting skills, baby. beneath the yellow light and the old crumpled sheets of poems i call my children, there was your handwriting, your goddamn handwriting that makes me want to cry. it said, "please don't hurt yourself." fragments of my heart are scattered all over my redwood floor where we laid down while you smile at me and make me feel so needed that i've forgotten for a second that i was too cynical. you make me feel very special and i hate it.
