A Poem by Addie Santos

I asked for a rose,
he gave me a rose garden
with white fences guarding it.
I asked for a novel,
he gave me first editions
he bought from auctions and museums.
I asked for a trip to the nearby park,
he took me to see
Moscow, Argentina
and the canals in Venice.
I asked him to lie to me,
he said “I love you.”
