Cards

A Poem by Michele

We have become so fragile.
       Like a house of cards.
The hands that build are shaking, we grow clumsy.
We lose balance and we scatter across the carpet.
Aimless, frenzied, and fragile.
Your name lingers at the tip of my tongue,
Light as a feather, yet heavy as an anchor.
I was numb.
Softly and effortlessly, I collapse into myself.
No sound, no signal, nothing.
I am nothing.
